Two offseasons ago, the Kansas City Chiefs lost one of their most important offensive pieces, trading Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.
Some doubters stated that Patrick Mahomes would get exposed without his No. 1 receiver, and the Chiefs responded by winning the whole thing.
Now, they’ve lost an even more crucial piece to that offense, letting former OC Eric Bieniemy go to join the Washington Commanders.
According to former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, the Chiefs are missing Bieniemy badly right now, even if he wasn’t always calling plays.

In his latest appearance on “Undisputed,” Johnson explained that Bieniemy had an influence over Andy Reid, so even if he didn’t actually call a play, he could make suggestions to the head coach.
Now, Matt Nagy has taken that spot, and — no disrespect whatsoever — he’s nowhere near Bieniemy in terms of being an offensive mastermind, as it became clear during his days with the Chicago Bears.
More than that, Johnson believes that Bieniemy’s departure has hurt the team’s offensive creativity, as they don’t have those surprising and creative plays near the end zone anymore, which is obviously taking a toll on Patrick Mahomes’ numbers as well.
For years, everybody around the league gave Bieniemy his flowers for being one of the best assistants in the game, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see that the Chiefs’ offensive numbers have gone south since his departure, and some of their explosiveness has also been missing in action with him now in the nation’s capital.
