Paul Skenes is breathtakingly good.
There is really no word to express how good and dominant he looked on Friday, as he dismantled the Chicago Cubs for six long and merciless innings.
Skenes walked just one and struck out 11 Cubs, but perhaps most importantly, he didn’t allow any runs or even a single hit.
He was at 100 pitches after the sixth, and that’s why leaving him in to try and get the no-hitter was out of the question.
The Cubs just had no chance against his 100+ velocity with movement.
Skenes, who was making just his second career start, was good enough to make history on Friday.
“Paul Skenes is the first player in AL/NL history to pitch 6 or more no-hit innings with 10+ strikeouts within his first two career starts,” MLB Pipeline tweeted.

There you have it.
Skenes didn’t need much time to adjust and show the level and confidence he showed in Triple-A all year.
His stuff is ready to be among the best in baseball, and he knows it.
He can also throw strikes and always seemed in complete control of the situation on Friday.
He was so brilliant that he made history: no other pitcher had thrown six innings or more without allowing any hits within their first two starts.
Now, he is the first.
He has many records to break and marks to establish.
If he can stay relatively healthy for the rest of the year, even the NL Rookie of the Year is a possibility.
