After a couple of seasons toiling near the bottom of the NFC West standings, things are finally looking up for the Arizona Cardinals ahead of the 2024 NFL season.
Kyler Murray looked healthy in his return from an ACL injury, while the Cardinals did well to give him some new weapons to work with on the offense in Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey Benson.
In his second year as the team’s head coach, Jonathan Gannon should see more success this upcoming year with a young and talented roster looking to make the next step.
It’s been years since Arizona has been relevant during the regular season and fans are certainly hoping that 2024 is finally the year they break out of their slump.
There hasn’t been a lot to cheer about for Cardinals fans as they’ve seen their favorite team routinely get outplayed on the field, though they recently got a chance to celebrate one of the franchise’s most beloved players because former running back David Johnson officially announced his retirement from the league via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
“Former #Cardinals Pro Bowl RB David Johnson announced that he’s retiring from the NFL after eight seasons,” Meirov reported.

Arizona drafted Johnson in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft and he would go on to have the best season of his career in 2016 when he was named a First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowlers.
Injuries derailed Johnson’s career and he later spent time with the Houston Texans and most recently the New Orleans Saints.
Johnson was an easy player to root for and now he gets to enjoy a well-earned retirement.
