NFL teams often negotiate contract values based on what the player can still do for them.
Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow got massive extensions because the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cincinnati Bengals think their talent is worth that much.
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes’ ten-year, $450 million contract has already led to a Super Bowl victory.
Unfortunately, Russell Wilson’s contract isn’t paying off for the Denver Broncos.
The Volume’s John Middlekauff even called it the worst transaction in NFL history.
“It’s not even debatable at this point. Russell Wilson trade is just an utter disaster,” Middlekauff said.
“I think they’re in the middle of one of the worst transactions in NFL history”

The Broncos gave up five draft picks, including two first-rounders, and three players to acquire the Pro Bowl quarterback.
Worst yet, the Broncos gave him a five-year, $245 million extension even if he still had two years left on his contract with the Seattle Seahawks.
However, Denver’s investment in Wilson hasn’t paid off.
They finished 5-12 last season, with Nathaniel Hackett lasting only 15 games.
Hiring Sean Payton hasn’t changed their fortunes as the Broncos fell to 1-5 after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Wilson’s contract will end in 2028 when he turns 40.
He simply isn’t the same quarterback anymore and the Broncos must find a way to move on.
