Recently, Detroit Lions star quarterback Jared Goff became a very wealthy man, with the team signing him to a four-year deal worth $212 million, with $170 million of the deal being fully guaranteed.
With Goff being one of the main reasons for the Lions turning things around in the Dan Campbell era in Detroit, he seems to be worth the money he’s getting paid, at least for the time being, if the team can continue to be successful moving forward while inching closer to the Super Bowl.
Now that Goff has secured what will be a very lucrative future in Detroit, the attention turns to other star quarterbacks in the league who are eligible to sign contract extensions, like Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Although Tagovailoa has proven his worth in Miami, as he seems to get better and better with every passing year while improving the Dolphins’ chances of winning it all, Lawrence is in another situation entirely, as he hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype he received coming out of college.
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky makes the argument that Lawrence hasn’t proven he deserves a massive payday from the Jaguars, via NFL on ESPN.
“There’s no way that we can sit here and say he deserves elite money right now,” Orlovsky said.
.@danorlovsky7 doesn’t think Trevor Lawrence deserves a top-tier contract

Although Orlovsky makes a good point here, the Jaguars won’t want to make Lawrence unhappy with his situation in Jacksonville, as it is not like the team has had a successful history of quarterbacks of his caliber coming through the franchise.
Lawrence will likely get paid, but it remains to be seen if he will reset the market, which Tagovailoa will almost certainly do.
