The Los Angeles Rams seem to be happy with Matthew Stafford.
And why wouldn’t they? He’s led them to the playoffs every year he’s been healthy, including a victorious trip to the Super Bowl.
Of course, he’s not getting any younger, and despite his toughness and reputation for playing through injury, there seems to be some risks about keeping him around for the long run.
That’s why it only makes sense that he’s looking to squeeze some more guaranteed money from the team while he still has some leverage.
Stafford reportedly wants more guaranteed money beyond this season, and it wouldn’t be shocking for him to ask for more money after Jared Goff secured his bag with the Detroit Lions last week.
Nonetheless, it seems like we won’t be getting many updates — if any — about this situation, as HC Sean McVay recently stated that he would keep the contract negotiations ‘in-house’ (via ProFootballTalk).
“Out of respect for the situation, we’ll just keep it in house,” McVay said. “What I am appreciative of is that he’s here leading the way and it’s been a good couple days for him.”

Despite the uncertainty, the veteran quarterback has shown up to OTAs, and there are no reports or indications that he intends to hold out or engage in any sort of conflict with the organization.
The Rams are coming off an overachieving season, closing the year on a high note and almost upsetting the Lions in the playoffs.
And while losing Aaron Donald will obviously be a massive blow to their aspirations in the foreseeable future, they will still have an opportunity to compete at a high level for as long as they have the former No. 1 pick behind center.
