Cam Akers’ tenure with the Los Angeles Rams was vastly disappointing.
The second-round pick out of Florida State was expected to be one of the biggest stars in the position when he entered the league, but injuries and a stand-off with HC Sean McVay have taken a toll on his career.
That’s why NFL analyst David Helman believes sending him to the Minnesota Vikings was perfect for everybody involved (via NFL on FOX).

Helman pointed out all the woes and struggles the Vikings have had when it comes to rushing the football, as they rank dead last in several categories despite having the most total yards in the league through the first two weeks of the season.
It became painfully clear that they didn’t have enough assets to make up for Dalvin Cook’s departure, and while Alexander Mattison has often fared well as a backup, he just doesn’t produce in the same way when he’s needed to start.
On top of that, Akers is quite familiar with HC Kevin O’Connell and Offensive Coordinator Wes Phillips, who were a part of the Rams organization in 2020 and 2021.
Akers’ issues with the team haven’t been disclosed, but it became clear that things were never going to be right with the Rams.
The team tried to trade him last season, and they deactivated him after just one game in this campaign.
Now, he’ll likely have his final opportunity to take a step forward and prove why scouts were so high on him when he first entered the league.
