The Pittsburgh Steelers made some big moves in the offseason.
They knew they had a subpar quarterback room, and they wouldn’t be able to compete at the highest level with Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph, so they addressed that need early in the offseason.
Now, they have Russell Wilson and Justin Fields there, and while Wilson got the nod as the QB1, some believe it should be an open competition for the job.
However, that’s not the case with Ryan Leaf.
Talking to Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show, the former QB claimed that there’s no competition whatsoever, as this is Russell Wilson’s job.

He might be right on point, but that doesn’t mean that he cannot lose his spot.
Wilson wasn’t the only thing that went bad in Denver, but he regressed from his days with the Seattle Seahawks.
Also, Fields is the younger player, and while he’s not tied to the organization for the long run, he should be extremely motivated to showcase his skills and prove that he could be their guy for the future.
From an upside standpoint, it would make more sense for the Steelers to give Fields a chance.
They were good despite their terrible quarterback situation, so they should be a lock to make the playoffs now that they’ve gotten better.
But if Wilson plays even slightly better than he did during his days with the Broncos, he should be able to hold onto his job without many issues.
