The Houston Texans had a remarkable turnaround in 2023 compared to their 2022 campaign.
The Texans were one of the worst teams in the league in 2022, but in 2023, they were able to put it all together, which culminated in some great wins.
C.J. Stroud’s presence in this offense was a breath of fresh air after a few seasons of heartbreak at the quarterback position, and their defense started playing harder than they had in years.
While they did add a lot of new players to this roster heading into the year, there seems to be a strong leader behind all of this team’s success.
Mina Kimes recently talked about DeMeco Ryans’ brilliance as a head coach in a podcast, which she shared on Twitter.
Kimes called Ryans a top-ten head coach, saying, “This is a defense that was obviously terrible before he arrived,” adding, “They immediately jumped to top 10 in success rate.”

While it might be a hot take to some, Kimes truly believes that Ryans is one of the best coaches in the league.
Not only did his team take a massive jump in success when he took over, but the team culture has changed a lot as well.
In Kimes’ mind, Ryans is the reason that the offense played so much better, and why the defense was as motivated as they were.
Ryans has been identified as a players-first coach throughout his career, both with the San Francisco 49ers and in his new post with the Texans.
Can this team build on the success they found in 2023, going on a further playoff run in 2024?
