The San Francisco 49ers have had themselves a very interesting offseason so far, especially in terms of contract talks.
Most notably, they have been trying to work with All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk on a new contract extension.
However, nothing has come to fruition.
NFL analyst John Middlekauff recently had this to say on The Volume about where San Francisco’s head is at in terms of how they value and should value their offensive players, especially when it comes to All-Pro back Christian McCaffrey:
“I’ll promise you this. Kyle Shanahan would pay Christian McCaffrey before Brandon Aiyuk, and they would gladly give him $20 million,” Middlekauff stated.

For years now, McCaffrey has proven how great of a player he is.
The former Stanford star is a four-time All-Pro and arguably the best back in football.
He is coming off the best season of his career and is still just 27 years of age.
He led the NFL in rushing (1,459), scrimmage yards (2,023), and total touchdowns (21) in 2023.
The 49ers would be right to pay him that much money because of his history of production.
Aiyuk has only been productive for two years.
McCaffrey has been a great player for multiple organizations.
The veteran has four career 1,000-yard seasons and six career years with over 1,000 scrimmage yards.
It is proven that he is better and more valuable at his position than a player like Aiyuk is at his.
McCaffrey is a team player, so he won’t ask for a new contract now.
But, GM John Lynch and Co. better figure things out with Aiyuk before another player asks for a new deal.
