After a surprising run to the divisional round of the playoffs last season, things haven’t been going as well for the New York Giants during the start of the 2023 campaign.
The Giants have only one win in their first five games this season, and next on their schedule is a road matchup against a very talented Buffalo Bills team on Sunday night.
New York is going to have their work cut out for them against the Bills, but it sounds like the Giants could be getting some extra help this week in the form of a returning Saquon Barkley.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Sunday, “there is a real chance” Barkley returns to the field when New York takes on Buffalo on Sunday night.
#Giants RB Saquon Barkley, out the past three weeks with a high-ankle sprain, is optimistic about being able to play today, per me and @MikeGarafolo. The team is giving him all the time he needs, and it’s not 100%. But there is a real chance he returns today vs. the #Bills.

For Barkley, this would be his first game back since Week 2, when he helped lead the Giants to their only victory of the season over the Arizona Cardinals.
New York’s top running back has been dealing with an ankle injury for the last few weeks, and it sounds like it’s recovered enough for him to at least attempt to place in the Week 6 matchup against the Bills.
Even if he’s not 100 percent, Barkley should still be able to make an impact against a Buffalo team that currently ranks last in the NFL in yards allowed per rushing attempt.
In three of their five games this season, the Bills have allowed their opponents to finish with at least 140 rushing yards, including last week when they gave up 196 yards on the ground in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
