Some good and great quarterbacks come into the NFL and excel right away, just as C.J. Stroud did with the Houston Texans last season.
But for some others, such as the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen, it can take a few years for them to grow into themselves.
Daniel Jones has been in the league for five seasons, and during that time, he has shown little or no improvement, which has led some to almost give up on him.
Former star wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson told Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe on Sharpe’s “Nightcap” podcast that Jones is entering his make-or-break year, especially given the large contract the New York Giants gave him a year ago.

New York signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension last offseason, yet he continued to put up meager stats in 2023.
He threw for 909 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions in his first six games when he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
He had previously missed three games with a neck injury.
With Jones, the Giants were 1-5 last season, and there were rumblings going into the draft that they wanted to move on from him.
But instead of taking a quarterback such as J.J. McCarthy with the No. 6 pick, they went with Louisiana State University wide receiver Malik Nabers.
Nabers is thought to have star potential, and he could give the Giants the type of playmaker they haven’t had at wideout for several years.
That would mean there will no longer be any excuses for Jones, especially as he embarks on his sixth pro season.
