The Houston Texans didn’t need to address many needs in the offseason.
They were uber-aggressive in trying to build from the success they found in DeMeco Ryans’ first season on the job.
Notably, that included addressing their running game, which they did by trading for a proven veteran like Joe Mixon.
However, that doesn’t mean Dameon Pierce will no longer be a factor.
If anything, coach Ryans believes the Texans will have one of the best one-two punches in the game (via Around the NFL):
“What I have seen from Dameon this offseason is a guy who has put in the work,” Ryans said. “I see Dameon having a very clear headspace as we are out working, and I think that will allow him to have a really productive year this year. He has everything it takes to be a really good running back for us and I think him and Joe as a one-two punch would be very beneficial for us all.”

Pierce wasn’t able to build from his impressive rookie campaign, constantly running into stacked boxes and struggling to find gaps and space.
Granted, his offensive line didn’t exactly give him a hand, but it still raised doubts about his status as the team’s workhorse going forward.
Mixon, while not getting any younger, is used to that kind of responsibility, and he’s a proven tackle-breaker with a great nose for the end zone.
The Texans have high hopes and expectations for the upcoming campaign, and some believe they could be a legitimate Super Bowl dark horse out of the AFC South.
CJ Stroud’s development seems to be way ahead of schedule, and while there could be some regression in his second year in the league, they still have a great supporting cast around him to make his job as easy as possible.
It’s the dawn of a new era for Texans football, and it’s exciting to see what they could be capable of with this revamped offensive corps.
