A lot of wide receivers over the course of NFL history don’t always get the credit they deserve because they got dealt a fortunate hand and wound up playing with nothing but elite quarterbacks and they never got the chance to show what they could do without a legend throwing them the ball.
That is the case for one former New England Patriots wide receiver, at least according to Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins.
Analyst Dov Kleiman posted a meme on X that showed a graph asking which NFL player generates a ton of hype from their fans but doesn’t actually have much skill, and Tyreek Hill chimed in and replied, “Wes Welker.”

It’s a bold claim, and Welker isn’t often a player who you hear being called overrated, but Hill obviously saw something he didn’t like.
In the original tweet, a slew of names were thrown out in response to the question with most people naming players they don’t like, though Trevor Lawrence, Odell Beckham Jr., and Justin Fields saw their names appear a few times.
Welker was an afterthought for the first few years of his career with the Miami Dolphins before he found himself on the Patriots, where he immediately became Tom Brady’s favorite target.
Welker posted five seasons over 110 catches playing with Brady and Peyton Manning, and he shouldn’t be slighted just because he was fortunate enough to play with two of the best to ever do it.
Hill should understand, as he hasn’t had it too bad in the QB department himself.
