It’s bag season, as many star players around the NFL who didn’t cash out in free agency are now relying on their leverage to begin soft holdouts at the start of OTAs with the hopes of landing massive contract extensions to avoid free agency.
One superstar who hasn’t been seen yet is Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson, and if he doesn’t attend the mandatory minicamp at the beginning of June, one insider has detailed just how much money he could be costing himself.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that he does anticipate Jefferson will attend minicamp, and The Purple Persuasion shared on X that if Jefferson elects not to attend, he would be fined a total of $90,000, according to Pioneer Press columnist Charley Walters.
If #Vikings WR Justin Jefferson does not attend mandatory minicamp June 4-6, he would be fined a total of $90K per @Charley_Walters
It is worth noting that @TomPelissero said this past week he does “anticipate” Jefferson to attend mandatory minicamp. #Skol https://t.co/tK4penERby pic.twitter.com/QDTTLJ6uyI

All signs so far have pointed to a deal getting done at some point this offseason, and Jefferson is likely seeking the largest wide receiver contract in NFL history, which is warranted.
He is expected to sign a deal in the neighborhood of $35 million per year, and both media members and the Vikings front office give off the impression that it is a matter of when, not if a deal gets done.
With Kirk Cousins out of the picture, this has been the cloud hanging over the franchise all offseason even though fans are excited about bringing in a rookie QB in J.J. McCarthy.
The front office needs to make sure McCarthy’s No. 1 guy is here for the long haul, and it’ll be interesting to see just how much Jefferson winds up getting paid.
