Shane Lowry is ready to kick off his 2025 golf season with renewed energy and optimism, starting with the Farmers Insurance Open. Reflecting on last year’s unforgettable moment at the same event—a stunning albatross on the par-5 sixth hole—the 37-year-old Irishman is eager to deliver another standout performance at Torrey Pines.
A love for the course
Lowry, who has often chosen the Farmers Insurance Open as the starting point for his season, highlighted his fondness for the challenging South Course, a former U.S. Open venue.
“I’ve started my season a few times here, so it kind of made sense to me,” Lowry shared with Golf Channel. “I like this type of golf. The South Course is quite a tough golf course, and I like that type of golf, so I do like coming here at the start of the year.”
With his schedule packed with elevated events, including Signature Events, Lowry has charted a busy start to the season. Following the Farmers Insurance Open, he will head to Pebble Beach and continue his competitive streak into other top-tier tournaments.
Recharge and refocus in the offseason
After a challenging but rewarding 2024, Lowry took full advantage of the offseason to recharge. Spending four weeks in Ireland away from the golf course, he allowed himself a mental and physical reset.
“I didn’t even touch a golf club during that time,” Lowry revealed, emphasizing the importance of stepping away to rejuvenate before a demanding season.
A fresh take with TGL
Lowry also enjoyed his participation in TGL, the high-tech, fan-focused golf league. The innovative format brought a sense of fun and excitement back into his game, something Lowry found refreshing.
“Played a bit of TGL, had some great fun doing that; that was some of the most enjoyable time I’ve had playing golf in a while,” he said.
Looking ahead
With a rejuvenated mindset and a packed schedule, Lowry enters the 2025 season ready to take on the challenges ahead. His focus on elevated events and his comfort with demanding courses make him one to watch as the PGA Tour’s marquee tournaments get underway.
The Farmers Insurance Open is more than just a starting point for Lowry—it’s a chance to set the tone for what promises to be an exciting season for the experienced Irishman.
