Fans and analysts can try their best to predict how a particular team’s season is going to go, but injuries are truly unpredictable.
Injuries tend to be an equalizer in sports, especially in the NFL.
It doesn’t matter how good a team looks in the offseason or how many elite players they add; injuries can turn the tide very quickly.
Just ask the New York Jets how an injury can determine the course of an entire season.
The Jets were riding high heading into the 2023 NFL season, having just traded for Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers was supposed to help transform the organization, giving them an opportunity to make the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
However, after his Achilles injury in the first game of the season, the Jets’ playoff chances seemed to be over.
Despite Rodgers suffering from this unforeseen injury, head coach Robert Saleh was criticized by some analysts throughout the year for not rallying the troops and making the playoffs despite the hurdles he needed to jump over.
LeSean McCoy recently defended Saleh’s performance last year in a segment of “First Things First” on FS1.
“Who’s going to win with this type of roster, other than Mike Tomlin for the Steelers?” McCoy asked.

In his mind, Saleh was dealt a difficult hand, and he shouldn’t be judged solely by the team’s performance last season, especially with all of the injuries they had.
With any luck, Rodgers will be healthy for the entire 2024 season, allowing fans and analysts to see how well Saleh can perform as a head coach with a marked improvement from the quarterback position.
