The NBA has changed a lot over the past several years.
Fans used to have an overwhelming sense of pride for their favorite teams, showing their support to a team through thick and thin.
While this type of fandom still exists, the average NBA fan has shifted their attention to specific players.
Fans seem much more drawn to specific players than they do to an entire team, which has caused an interesting dynamic.
The new-age fan was on full display when Jaylen Waddle appeared on the OGs Show to discuss this phenomenon.
The Miami Dolphins standout wide receiver doesn’t have a favorite team, but rather, “Wherever Bron goes, I go.”

Waddle indicated that he is a much bigger LeBron James fan than a fan of one particular team.
James has meant a lot to the new generation of NBA fans, as he is commonly viewed as one of the best NBA players of all time.
He has inspired many current NBA players to change up their style of play to be more like him, which has resulted in some great basketball over the past several years.
Waddle is just one example of this type of fan, but it’s a sign that even professional athletes can think this way.
The NFL doesn’t necessarily experience this, as team affinities seem to run deep within their fanbases, especially since fandom appears to be a family affair, at least in this league.
With the increasing popularity of the NBA, it will be interesting to see if NFL fans ever change their tune and adopt this player-centered mindset.
