The Houston Texans came into the 2023 NFL season having drafted two players in the first three picks of the 2023 NFL Draft, and the team expected to be looking at long-term success rather than success right out of the gate.
Fortunately for the Texans, rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has been better than expected, as he has shown some remarkable leadership skills for a 22-year-old fresh out of Ohio State.
Along with already being the undisputed leader of this young team, Stroud has been incredibly efficient this season, as he threw his only interception of the season on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints but was still able to lead the Texans to a win.
The Texans are now sitting at .500 with a record of 3-3 after the first six weeks of the season and are way ahead of where they were expected to be at this point, with Stroud and new head coach Demeco Ryans getting some buzz as an NFL Coach of the Year candidate via ESPN’s Mike Greenberg.
Demeco Ryans doing coach of the year sort of work. #Texans are about as pleasant a surprise as there is in the league.

Obviously, it’s very early in the season, and things can change quickly in the NFL due to injuries and players sometimes losing some confidence after a strong start to the year.
However, the Texans seem to be on to something, with Stroud looking like the real deal under center, which means this team has a good chance of getting better and better each week, further making a case for Ryans as the NFL Coach of the Year.
Houston will definitely be a team to watch moving forward.
