The Minnesota Vikings are in the midst of a tough offseason and still have another big decision to make regarding superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is in line for perhaps the biggest non-quarterback contract in NFL history.
It has always felt inevitable that a long-term deal will get done at some point, but one insider said that it hasn’t been as much of a sure thing as we might have thought.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” today and said, “During draft night I heard that the Chargers were contemplating trading down,” and added, “I was told that the Vikings were trying to trade up to get Malik Nabers…if they moved up then the Vikings would’ve traded Justin Jefferson.”

This is a shocking statement to hear, as it’s unfathomable to think that the Vikings would trade Jefferson, even on draft night when they so desperately needed to take a franchise quarterback, which they did by selecting J.J. McCarthy after trading up to the No. 10 spot.
Jefferson is slated to play this season on his fifth-year rookie option and will become a free agent after that if no deal is reached, but the Vikings would be out of their minds to let it get to that point.
One has to wonder if this news bothers Jefferson at all, or if he simply understands it’s a business and that the team is going through a transitional phase and cashing out on its biggest asset was something that was at least worth exploring.
