The San Francisco 49ers made a big move recently to sign veteran receiver Jauan Jennings to a two-year extension worth up to over $15 million.
The former seventh-round pick has carved out a nice, little role for himself in San Francisco behind the likes of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
NFL analyst Greg Cosell recently hopped on the “Ross Tucker Podcast” to chat about what Jennings does so well in the Bay Area.
“He was as physical and as competitive a wideout as I recall seeing…He fits exactly who the Niners are, and that’s why they signed him,” Cosell stated.
“He is as physical and competitive of a wideout as I’ve seen…”

Cosell noted Jennings’ time at Tennessee as a precursor to what he has done in the league so far.
Now, Jennings isn’t some All-Pro wide receiver that fills that stat sheet up whenever he steps onto the field.
He is a gritty player that makes timely plays when called upon.
After all, his best NFL season came in 2021 when he caught 35 passes for 416 yards and a touchdown.
Again, he isn’t anything special.
But, that’s okay.
He fits the mold of what the 49ers like to do.
He blocks well and is very key on third down.
The 26-year-old converted 8 third downs in the playoffs last year.
In total, he brought in 10 receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs while helping the 49ers make the Super Bowl.
The former Volunteer isn’t going to catch 100 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns.
That’s not his style.
His style is all about physicality and competitiveness.
The 49ers extended a very valuable player in their building for sure.
