The New England Patriots hope they got things right this time.
Mac Jones didn’t turn out to be the player they thought and hoped he’d be, and while they deserve plenty of the blame for the way they mishandled him, it was more than evident that they needed to move on from him as well.
Now, it’ll be Drake Maye’s turn to lead this team back to contention, and while filling Tom Brady’s shoes is an impossible task, they surely hope he can turn out to be a franchise-caliber player.
So far, so good for them, as the UNC product has looked solid during OTAs, even impressing with some no-look passes (via Patriots).

Of course, one shouldn’t get too carried away after watching a player complete a no-look pass in a controlled environment.
Still, it’s nice to see that he’s working on his accuracy, which was one of the knocks on him coming out of college.
UNC quarterbacks haven’t found much success in the National Football League, and while he had the physical tools and made the most of them in college, some believe he’s still quite raw and nowhere near ready to play.
Maye needs to work on his footwork and mechanics, and he might be better off spending one year on the sidelines getting to learn from Jacoby Brissett.
Still, he could have a bright future in the league if they bring him along properly and patiently, even if they have to endure a couple of additional losing seasons.
