The New York Mets bullpen hasn’t been the most reliable in baseball in recent games.
You have the Edwin Diaz and the Jorge Lopez sagas, and it recently became known that Brooks Raley would undergo season-ending elbow surgery.
That procedure was performed this week, on Wednesday, according to Mets insider Anthony DiComo.
“Reliever Brooks Raley, as expected, underwent internal brace surgery yesterday on his left elbow. He is done for the year and can be a free agent after this season,” he tweeted.

Raley will definitely be missed in the Mets bullpen.
He had a very inconsistent career before joining the Mets in 2023.
There, he had arguably the best season of his life with a 2.80 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 54.2 frames.
He then proceeded to pitch seven innings of a perfect 0.00 ERA this year, with just two hits allowed and three walks.
He struck out nine before going down with the elbow injury.
Raley is now expected to be out for several months, which effectively knocks him out for the rest of the 2024 campaign.
He should be ready to return at some point in 2025, though, probably in the second half of that season.
If he is healthy, there will surely be plenty of suitors because he is a solid middle reliever with proven ability to miss bats.
The fact he is a left-hander also helps, as MLB bullpens are always on the lookout for talented southpaws.
It’s a bummer to see him go under the knife, as the Mets really needed him, particularly at this juncture.
