The New York Jets needed to revamp their offensive line, so they didn’t waste a second to make a big splash in free agency.
They went after a proven veteran in Tyron Smith, ending his 13-year tenure with the Dallas Cowboys organization.
The eight-time Pro Bowler got a one-year deal that could be worth up to $20 million, according to multiple reports.
And while there were some doubts about his durability at this point in his career, it seems like he’s still in peak physical form.
At least, that’s what we can gather from HC Robert Saleh, who recently revealed that he watched Smith bench pressing 400 pounds (via Jets Videos).

The former No. 9 pick had been a mainstay on the Cowboys’ offensive line since 2011, playing at both right and left tackle and excelling at both.
And while injuries are a legitimate concern for a 33 year old, we’re talking about someone who’s started 161 games since he entered the league, earning five All-Pro selections in the meantime.
The Jets had one of the worst offensive lines in the game, and they needed to up their game to protect their future Hall of Famer at the quarterback position.
Hopefully, Smith will be able to stay on the field and help them do so, and he’s clearly putting in some hard work to be in top form for the start of the season.
