It’s not very often that a team gets to pick exactly who they want in the NFL Draft, let alone twice in the first ten picks.
That was the case with the Chicago Bears, who held the No. 1 and No. 9 selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, and they clearly put them to great use.
There was absolutely no doubt that they would get Caleb Williams first overall, but everything was kind of blurry after that.
The first round is always full of surprises.
That’s why Bears GM Ryan Poles was so excited and emotional after every pick that went by, knowing that he was inching closer to his desired player.
With that in mind, NFL insider Adam Schefter reached out to Poles and asked him whether he had seen his now-viral video from the Bears’ war room, in which you can see how emotional and nervous he was.
Here is Bears GM Ryan Poles’ takeaway of the widely-circulated video of him watching the picks in front of his and hoping that Washington WR Rome Odunze would slip to their turn at No. 9.

Poles responded that he had, indeed, watched the clip, claiming that his wife gave him a hard time because of the way he was chewing gum so strongly, trying to hide his emotions.
The Bears may have gotten two generational players in the first round.
Odunze and Williams will always be on the same timeline, and they have an opportunity to be one of the most special duos in the game.
Poles was like every Bears fan at home, and for the first time in quite a while, it’s an exciting time to root for the Bears.
