The 2023 Houston Texans, to put it mildly, did not enter the season under the burden of great expectations.
After all, the team suffered a dismal 3-13-1 record the previous year and brought in a new head coach who started a rookie quarterback.
Then, the campaign began 0-2.
But new head man DeMeco Ryans proved he was more than up to the challenge, and quarterback C.J. Stroud quickly proved he was the best man to lead the offense.
This week, former Texans great J.J. Watt discussed the lofty goals for the team that won an amazing ten games and reached the divisional round of the AFC playoffs.
Watt told Pat McAfee: “Ryans is the perfect person to handle the high expectations for the Texans.”

The retired Houston star said he knows the young head coach well, “and he’s so even keel and calm.”
With a team that boasts a wealth of young talent, Watts believes Ryans will relate to his squad and keep the guys “in check” as they grow into professionals.
As a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Watt is certainly a respected voice in NFL circles.
When he says the future is bright for the Texans, there is no reason to doubt him.
After all, the team has Ryans at the helm, with Stroud running the offense and fellow 2023 rookie Will Anderson Jr. leading a defense that promises to only get better.
The AFC South could be in Houston’s back pocket for years to come.
