The Dallas Cowboys made a shocking decision this year.
Just when everybody thought they were ready to commit to Dak Prescott for the long run, they decided not to sign him to a contract extension.
Their franchise quarterback is now set to play the season on the final year of his contract, meaning he could become a free agent at the end of the season.
And while there has been some buzz about the Cowboys still wanting him there for the long run, Craig Carton isn’t so sure about that.
In the latest edition of “The Carton Show,” he claimed that it seems like they’re setting the table for Trey Lance to take over after this season.

Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy recently raved about Lance’s improvement and performance at OTAs.
He claimed that he’s mastering the offense, and Carton believes they’re trying to prepare him to take the reins of the team and let Prescott leave.
That could make sense, as Lance is just 24 years old and was a first-round pick not so long ago.
He hasn’t gotten the reps a prospect needs to develop, and while some of that has been on him, he’s also been hurt multiple times.
Prescott is a finished product, and he is who he is at this point, for better or worse.
He might give the Cowboys a better chance to compete right now, but maybe not in the future.
So, if Lance keeps the good work up and continues to improve, the Cowboys could be forced to make another decision.
