Sunday night’s matchup between the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants came down to the final play, and unfortunately, the game was full of questionable decisions made by the officials.
Of course, there was the obvious no-call for defensive pass interference on the Bills during the final play of the contest, which resulted in Buffalo getting the win.
But earlier in the matchup, the Bills also benefited from another controversial call when the Giants were questionably penalized for roughing the passer.
After the call was made, former NFL All-Pro defensive lineman J.J. Watt took to social media to post his displeasure with the fact that game officials aren’t really held accountable for any bad calls they make in a matchup.
Lack of accountability for refs is infuriating for players because they don’t receive the same leniency.
Players get flagged, fined & can potentially win/lose games on erroneous calls.
Refs get “corrected” privately after the fact and “may” lose out on postseason opportunities. https://t.co/6BMvM4N7wZ

Watt is also speaking from experience since he was on the losing end of plenty of questionable roughing-the-passer calls during his playing career with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.
On the play, Buffalo was facing a 1st-and-25 from their own 10-yard line in the second quarter, and New York was likely going to get good field position if they could make a stop on the drive.
Luckily, the drive ended with the Giants coming up with an interception, but the penalty allowed the Bills to run five more plays and drain valuable time off of the clock that New York, unsurprisingly, wound up needing at the end of the first half.
Giants fans are likely going to point to the refs as a big reason why their team lost on Sunday.
But the reality is that New York just didn’t make enough plays during their other opportunities in the game.
