Last season, the San Francisco 49ers were, without a doubt, one of the most talented teams in the NFL on both sides of the football field, with Brock Purdy having an MVP-caliber season under center and Nick Bosa leading the charge on defense.
Although the 49ers remain one of the most talented teams in the NFL on paper during this offseason, the team was not content with its roster, as Kyle Shanahan and company decided to make moves to address specific areas, like wide receiver.
Even though the wide receiver position was already considered to be stacked with the dynamic duo of Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel while also having George Kittle at tight end, the 49ers drafted rookie wideout Ricky Pearsall out of the University of Florida, which was a surprising move, to say the least.
Some believe that the move to bring in Pearsall is a way to address the current unresolved contract situation with Aiyuk, who wants an extension before the start of the season.
Not only does Pearsall’s arrival put pressure on contract talks for Aiyuk, but he’s also receiving high praise in camp, with star linebacker Fred Warner seeing the talent in the rookie, via 49ers on NBCS.
“There’s a reason why he was drafted in the first round,” Warner said.

With Aiyuk and the 49ers not seeing eye-to-eye on a new deal right now, it’ll be interesting to see if the veteran is on the team’s roster before Week 1, as he could get traded elsewhere.
It’s not out of the question that Pearsall could help fill the void left by a potential Aiyuk trade.
