Playing quarterback is the most important and demanding position in all of team sports, as it means someone is totally at the controls of his team, not to mention the face of the franchise.
After Dan Marino retired following the 1999 season, the Miami Dolphins went many years without a true franchise quarterback, but these days, they may have a legitimate one.
Tua Tagovailoa has developed into a star over the last couple of years, and last season, he led the NFL in passing yards while earning his first Pro Bowl nod.
Chris Simms called Tagovailoa “the ultimate NFL point guard” while praising his quick decision-making and accuracy (via FinsXtra).
Chris Simms on Tua Tagovailoa: “He is the ultimate NFL point guard at QB. There is a lot about his game I really like… You could watch his 4 best games and go, he’s the best QB in football. But then you could watch the 4 bad games and go, damn.” (@CSimmsQB) #GoFins pic.twitter.com/im0udyecNH

On the other hand, Simms ranked Tagovailoa at just No. 18 on his list of the top-40 QBs.
One bone of contention Simms has with the 26-year-old is whether he has what it takes to get the job done in crunch time or in big games when defenses are tight and each snap is magnified.
Tagovailoa definitely has his share of critics who feel he isn’t all that, regardless of his impressive stats.
He completed 69.3 percent of his pass attempts in 2023, which was a big improvement over his 64.8 percent accuracy the previous season.
Miami went 11-6 in 2023, but they had lots of trouble defeating teams with winning records, and they ultimately fell by 19 points in the Wild Card round of the playoffs to the Kansas City Chiefs while mustering just seven points.
Tagovailoa will have an additional weapon this coming season in Odell Beckham Jr., but the area in which his team really needs to improve is defense.
