It’s one thing to make it to the NFL and even become a star, but not all players thrive off the field as much as they thrive on it.
Bankruptcy, poor habits, or simply not knowing what to do next can lead a former athlete to rock bottom.
Notably, that might be the case with Jamaal Charles.
Once considered to be one of the best running backs in the game, the former Kansas City Chiefs star recently admitted that he had been struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts since walking away from the league.
The former rushing touchdown champion revealed that he lost plenty of money on investments and was struggling to cope with that (via MLFootball).

Often times, athletes don’t know who they truly are off of the field.
That’s one of the many reasons why sports psychology is so important, as the players need to brace themselves for what’s to come once their bodies are no longer in top shape.
As a matter of fact, NFL players and professional athletes will live more years not playing than actually playing, so they must be mentally strong and prepared to deal with the perks and demands of life once they’re off the field.
Hopefully, Charles will be able to crawl his way out of this dark space and thrive again.
