The NFL changing the kickoff rule isn’t something we thought we’d see soon, but it’s a new day in football.
The new kickoff rule has sparked a major debate on social media, with former and current players sharing their thoughts on it.
Some love it, others hate it, but the fact of the matter is that it’s going to happen.
With that in mind, former Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce shared his two cents on the matter, claiming that he was actually a fan of it.
Talking to his brother Travis on their New Heights podcast, Kelce argued that football was better when special teams mattered.

He believes this is going to drive more value to those positions and prove that you don’t need to be an elite offensive or defensive player to make an impact on the game.
He also thinks the old kickoff rule wasn’t a kickoff; it was just a ceremonial kick.
On top of that, he thinks it’s going to be much safer, as players won’t have 40 yards to get a start before a collision.
We should also see an uptick in scoring because of this rule, which is yet another reason why the NFL didn’t hesitate to put it in place.
At the end of the day, it’s all about adapting, and football isn’t the exception to that rule, even if some old-school fans refuse to embrace these kinds of changes.
