Calvin Johnson is widely viewed as one of the best wide receivers to play in the NFL over the past two decades.
He was a dominant receiver throughout his relatively short career, making it into the Hall of Fame after nine seasons in the league.
While Johnson racked up several accolades throughout his time in the NFL, one of the most impressive was his single-season receiving yards in 2012.
He amassed 1,964 yards during the 2012 season, a receiving record that remains to this day.
Johnson recently talked about this record in a conversation with the Detroit Free Press, which was shared by Around The NFL on Twitter.
As Johnson said in his conversation, “I mean, it’s bound to fall at some point the way it’s going, so it is what it is. I held it down, I don’t even know how long, over a decade now.”

While Johnson is confident that a receiver will eventually break his record, it should be noted that he was able to achieve this accolade in 16 games.
The NFL has now shifted to a 17-game schedule, giving players another game to break single-season records like this.
Tyreek Hill was close to breaking the record in 2023, putting up 1,799 yards.
Other players like Justin Jefferson and Cooper Kupp have also come close in recent seasons, but they too, have fallen short.
This is an indication of how dominant Johnson’s connection was with Matthew Stafford, and how much of an edge he had over opposing defenders during his time in the league.
