The New England Patriots have been through a lot since Tom Brady left.
In hindsight, allowing him to leave didn’t seem like the wisest decision, and that’s reportedly why Robert Kraft started resenting Bill Belichick.
So, with the renowned coach no longer on the premises, it’ll now be up to his heir-apparent to lead the way.
With that in mind, former NFL player and broadcaster Solomon Wilcots believes the Patriots made the right decision by appointing Jerod Mayo to be their head coach.
Talking on the “Ross Tucker Podcast,” Wilcots argued that you know you’re doing things well when you’re handpicked by both Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft, so it’s only normal to have high expectations for Mayo.

While some were surprised to see that a former player with no head coaching experience would take the reins of the team, reports later showed that it was the plan all along.
Of course, things weren’t expected to end the way they did.
Belichick was supposed to stay there and pass Don Shula on the all-time wins list before riding triumphantly into the sunset.
Then, Mayo would take over.
But with Belichick’s relationship with Kraft reaching a bit of a breaking point, they had to turn to the successor earlier than expected.
Now, the Patriots won’t exactly have the most competitive roster in the league, and they’re expected to be the worst team in the division.
However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel with Mayo at the helm.
