Dak Prescott’s contract situation is hanging over the Dallas Cowboys like a dark cloud, and the team has had the quietest offseason in the NFL, so there hasn’t been anything done to distract us all from the fact that the team’s franchise QB is heading into a contract year.
Dallas has done little to inspire any confidence that a deal will get done, and Mike Greenberg seems to agree with that sentiment.
Greenberg appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” today and said, “I don’t think the Dallas Cowboys are gonna get a deal done with Dak Prescott,” before adding, “He’s gonna be an unrestricted free agent and he’s gonna make a lot of money.”

Dak has a $55.45 million cap hit this season in the final year of a 4-year, $160 million extension he signed years ago and while the Cowboys have expressed mild interest in getting a deal done, it doesn’t feel nearly as inevitable as other recent extensions around the league, such as Justin Jefferson’s deal with the Minnesota Vikings or Jared Goff’s deal with the Detroit Lions.
Head coach Mike McCarthy is also heading into a contract year as well, so it’s entirely possible the Cowboys front office is simply giving this foundation one more shot to make a decent playoff run before cutting ties entirely and rebuilding.
Prescott is coming off one of his best seasons, but this franchise is only judged on its success in the postseason, which hasn’t happened in decades.
We’ll see what contract-year Dak has in store for us soon.
