‘Tis the season for disgruntled players to withhold their services from their NFL franchises, but the seriousness of potential holdouts varies from person to person.
For example, San Francisco wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is unhappy with his current deal and wants to pressure the defending NFC champs into reworking his contract.
At least one expert believes that this outcome may be only a fantasy.
Joe Dolan emphatically expressed his doubts that the team will re-sign Aiyuk, but he also does not believe that the wide receiver will leave money on the table with an extended holdout, per the “Ross Tucker Podcast.”

Dolan added that the prospect of the 49ers trading Aiyuk may not be the worst-case scenario for the club as “there are a lot of mouths to feed in San Francisco.”
This is a team with many superstars lined up at the trough for big paydays, and a good but not necessarily great wide receiver may not top the list of team priorities.
The 49ers reportedly offered Aiyuk a contract extension in the $26 million range, which comes in below what he expressed he is willing to suit up for.
While it is nowhere near the $140 million the Vikings doled out to Justin Jefferson, no one is suggesting that Aiyuk is near that level of performance.
There is a strong chance of resolution of this impasse before it reaches a critical level, as multiple teams have inquired about the receiver’s availability.
Indeed, the 49ers have more on their plate as the season approaches than a wide receiver who is unhappy with his deal.
