The law of supply and demand is certainly in play as the NFL’s quarterback market appears to be overheating.
It was just Thursday night when Jacksonville signed Trevor Lawrence to a stunning five-year, $275 million contract after three up-and-down seasons leading the Jaguars.
This pushed the already high ceiling to compensate the league’s most rare commodities even higher.
Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco Johnson, former receivers who know a thing or two about quarterbacks, recently discussed the explosion rocking the NFL.
Sharpe made the shocking prediction that, within 5-10 years, somebody will be paid $500 million.

The former star tight end for Denver (and briefly Baltimore) asked a simple but profound question.
“If they gave Trevor Lawrence $142 million to sign, what is Patrick Mahomes worth?”
That is a question for which there is definitely an answer, and there will come a day when the Kansas City Chiefs will need to pay even more to their superstar and three-time Super Bowl champion.
The loquacious Sharpe continued to keep Mahomes in the discussion, granting that he is the NFL’s marquee player at the moment.
However, money is not his motivating factor, just as it was not the primary goal for the man he is chasing for greatness, Tom Brady.
Sharpe correctly noted that Brady got a taste for the glory of winning championships, and that became his overriding goal over seeing how many dollars he could squeeze out of his team.
Likewise, Mahomes is not pouting over being replaced by far lesser quarterbacks as the league’s best-paid player.
But a $500 million quarterback is coming, as Sharpe wisely predicted, and he likely plays for the Chiefs.
