The Minnesota Vikings have a new quarterback.
He’s expected to be there for years to come, and if he turns out to be as good as they expect him to be, he might be in the Twin Cities for at least a decade.
Nonetheless, the Michigan product is in a bit of a rush to get his hands on his newly-found money.
According to a report by Charley Walters, J.J. McCarthy is looking to get his entire signing bonus money right up front with no deferrals (via The Purple Persuasion).
“Rumors persist that the rookie QB wants all of his signing bonus upfront with no deferrals.” says @Charley_Walters

McCarthy’s rookie deal will be worth $22 million over four years with a $13 million signing bonus.
It’s usual for teams to defer payments and pay signing bonuses throughout the course of several years, but that’s not what McCarthy wants.
Perhaps getting into this kind of situation with the team isn’t the best way to get their relationship started, and it may not set the best precedent between the front office and the player, but he’s entitled to that money.
It’s crazy to think that someone could make that kind of money even before he sets foot on the field, and there’s always a chance that he’s not good at all.
Even so, given the crazy wealth NFL teams generate, it’s only right that the players get a big chunk of it, and the Vikings could likely turn his image into plenty of cash.
At the end of the day, that deal will be a bargain if he’s as good as advertised.
