The NFL quarterback market has gone up a lot over the past couple of years.
It seems like we’re witnessing record-breaking deals left and right.
That only means that whoever comes next is going to get even more money, regardless of whether he’s the best quarterback in the game or not.
With that in mind, NFL insider Charles Robinson believes Dak Prescott could be in line for a $60 million-a-year kind of salary.
In his latest column for Yahoo Sports, Robinson argued that, with Trevor Lawrence getting a massive deal, agents and people used to working on quarterback contracts firmly believe that Prescott could be looking at something in the ballpark of $60 million per season:
“A handful of agents and NFL executives with experience doing quarterback deals told Yahoo Sports they believe that’s a number Prescott could now command in his next extension, following the five-year, $275 million deal signed by Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence this week,” Robinson said.
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t sign Prescott to an extension in the offseason, and he’s going to play next season in the final year of his contract.
That could prove to be a costly mistake for Jerry Jones either way, as Prescott could either walk away as a free agent and leave them without a franchise quarterback, or they could be forced to pay way more than they would’ve had to give him if they had signed him this offseason.
Of course, Prescott isn’t the best quarterback in the game by any means, but he’s still a franchise quarterback, and he’s going to get paid as such.
Whether he’s going to get that money to stay in Arlington or not remains to be seen.
