A new era may be starting for the Washington Commanders after they were sold by the controversial Daniel Snyder several months ago and drafted Louisiana State University quarterback Jayden Daniels at No. 2 in this year’s draft.
Daniels is an outstanding quarterback prospect coming off a stellar 2023 season, and with five years of college football under his belt, an argument could be made that he’s more NFL-ready than Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, who were taken at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
The Commanders also have a new head coach, Dan Quinn, who was the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for the last three years.
On “The Jim Rome Show,” Quinn said Daniels has a rare combination of hunger, humility, swagger and calmness.
“He has the humility and hunger of a young player…but he has the swagger and calmness of a veteran.”

Last season at LSU, Daniels threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while completing 72.2 percent of his pass attempts, and he also ran for 1,134 yards and ten touchdowns.
He won the Heisman Trophy, AP College Football Player of the Year award, Walter Camp Award and SEC Offensive Player of the Year award, among other individual honors.
While Washington had Kirk Cousins, a four-time Pro Bowler, several years ago, one could argue they have never had a truly elite QB, not even when they won three Super Bowl championships in the 1980s and early 1990s.
They aren’t ready to compete for a playoff spot in the NFC, but in Daniels, wide receiver Terry McLaurin and linebacker Frankie Luvu, they have some definite building blocks moving forward.
