It’s the NFL offseason, so who is surprised when fans’ attention is turned toward events unrelated to anything that happened on the playing field?
Such is the case with the most recent tidbits involving pop sensation Taylor Swift and star Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Swift’s Eras Tour recently touched down for a series of shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, and as many as 90,000 fans turned out to be entertained by perhaps the most famous singer in the world.
They were also treated to the impressive sight of Mr. Kelce sporting a top hat and long coattails on stage with his beau.
Swift acknowledged the outpouring of support from her legions of British fans and, in an Instagram post featuring the celebrity couple before the audience, noted the concert’s guests, who, of course, included her romantic partner.

NFL executives gleefully await the new season and watch the relationship between the couple carefully, as the “Swift Effect” is alive and well.
Millions of fans, primarily female, tuned in to watch Kansas City games with hopes of catching a glimpse of the singer, and the networks were more than happy to oblige.
Ratings showed substantial increases in viewership from a demographic that the league might otherwise have difficulty attracting.
How many of these viewers will then become lifelong fans – and consumers?
No amount of careful and expensive marketing would bring the NFL the free publicity it enjoyed in 2023 when one of its marquis players began a relationship with a singing superstar.
Fans will certainly see more of Swift and Kelce this fall; that much is certain.
