The Miami Dolphins are at an interesting spot with franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
As Tagovailoa is about to enter the final year of his rookie deal, he is looking for a major contract extension.
However, no official word has come out yet on whether or not Miami is interested in paying him what the market currently dictates, which is at least $55 million per year.
This comes after the likes of Jacksonville Jaguars Pro Bowl quarterback Trevor Lawrence and Detroit Lions Pro Bowl quarterback Jared Goff both got paid in big ways this offseason.
Fox Sports’s Craig Carton believes owner Stephen Ross doesn’t want to pay Tagovailoa at all.
“The fact that Stephen Ross, the owner of the Miami Dolphins, hasn’t done this deal yet tells you he doesn’t want to do this deal,” Carton said.

Miami has two options as things currently stand right now.
They can pay Tagovailoa what he is asking for and lock up the Pro-Bowler for the future.
Or, not pay him and prepare for life without him in 2025.
They need to understand what they are risking by not paying him, however.
If the Dolphins decided to move on from him, they would be moving on from a player who led the league in either passer rating or passing yards in back-to-back seasons.
Also, this team has made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the turn of the century.
That doesn’t happen without Tagovailoa.
The grass simply isn’t always greener on the other side, which means Miami needs to do the wise thing and pay him.
