The Philadelphia Phillies are playing some of their best baseball of the season right now.
For the second straight year, they are finding a way to play great in October.
The Phillies have gone 7-1 in the playoffs and find themselves two wins away from consecutive National League pennants.
It has been a full team effort to push the Phillies through the playoffs.
The bats are swinging maybe the best they have all season while the pitching staff continues to find ways to get outs.
The Phillies pitching staff is even making postseason history during this run.
According to Sarah Langs, the Phillies have the second-lowest ERA ever in the first eight games of the postseason.
Their team ERA checks in at 1.39.
lowest ERA in 1st 8 games of single postseason:
1983 Orioles: 1.23
2023 Phillies: 1.39 https://t.co/YNl96y3VNk— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) October 18, 2023
The 1983 Orioles, whom the Phillies share the list with, were World Series champions.
So it appears the Phillies have found themselves in good company.
The most runs the Phillies have given up so far in the playoffs was five to the Atlanta Braves.
That happened to be the only game they lost.
It just seems like in the NLCS the Arizona Diamondbacks do not have enough to keep up.
The Phillies are substantially better both at the plate and on the mound.
No one should be surprised if this series is over sooner rather than later.
Credit for the Phillies’ success must go to the players and manager Rob Thomson.
He seemingly always has his guys ready to play when the lights are the brightest.
The Phillies now sit six games away from being crowned World Series champions.
It will be tough for any team to slow them down.
