To say that it’s been a wild season for the Pittsburgh Steelers could be a bit of an understatement.
Mike Tomlin’s team has struggled to be at it’s best, and even though they have one of the best defenses in the league, their offense has been pedestrian, to say the least.
Surprisingly, it seems like the answer to their prayers was always right in front of them.
Third-string QB Mason Rudolph has balled out in his two starts this season, leading them to a 2-0 record to keep their postseason hopes alive.
More than that, he also leads all qualifying players in passer rating (minimum 50 attempts), according to NFL on CBS on Twitter.
His 115.3 rating is No. 1 in the league, even ahead of the likes of Brock Purdy (113.0) and Dak Prescott (104.2).

Rudolph has been a perennial backup in Pittsburgh, and while some thought he was Ben Roethlisberger’s heir apparent, that never actually happened.
The Steelers rolled with Kenny Pickett, but it seems like they’re now having second thoughts on their franchise quarterback.
Pickett is reportedly back to full strength after missing the past month with an ankle injury, yet Tomlin and company will continue to stick with Rudolph for the must-win season finale vs. the Baltimore Ravens.
Their offense has scored nearly twice as many points with Rudolph behind center, and what’s not broken should not be fixed.
Then again, this is going to be quite interesting as we approach the offseason, as the Steelers might now be in the market for a new signal-caller.
