Newly-retired Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce recently said on his podcast how tough it was to play against 3-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, who also retired this offseason.
According to Donald, the feeling was mutual.
The newly retired Los Angeles Ram went on “Green Light with Chris Long” and returned the praise Kelce bestowed upon him, saying “I hated playing against Philly,” and lamenting Kelce for never letting him get any 1-on-1 matchups when they played against one another, instead always relying on guard help.

Donald said he’d get maybe one or two opportunities to go one-on-one when he played against the Eagles, and if he didn’t capitalize on his opportunities, that was it and he’d get doubled the whole game.
Donald played five games against the Eagles in his career and didn’t record a sack, which is surprising given he had 111 of them during his ten years in the league.
Somehow, these two never faced off in the playoffs despite both teams making multiple deep playoff runs during their careers, but they each retired with a Super Bowl ring and a laundry list of accolades.
It’s adorable to hear these two swap stories about their playing days and times they faced off against one another now that they’re retired.
Maybe someday soon Donald will make an appearance on Kelce’s podcast and they can share more about the battles they had.
Kelce’s post-playing career appears to be headed in the media direction, and it’ll be interesting to see what Donald does now that he has hung up his cleats.
