The New York Yankees are finishing up a very disappointing season.
Many people in spring training picked them to represent the American League in the World Series.
That will not happen as the Yankees have been eliminated from postseason contention.
After a season like this, not much good usually comes from it.
But, the Yankees at least have one bright spot.
The pitching of Gerrit Cole this year has been sensational.
He has carried the Yankees every fifth day and is on his way to winning his first Cy Young award.
Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge talked about how impressive Cole has been this season.
According to Bryan Hoch, Judge said: “He’s the best pitcher in the game. This is Gerrit Cole’s era, that’s for sure.”
“He’s the best pitcher in the game,” Aaron Judge said. “This is Gerrit Cole’s era, that’s for sure. He’s the benchmark for what an ace is supposed to be like, on and off the field.”

Cole has been dominant for a significant portion of his career.
Surprisingly, he has not won a Cy Young yet.
His stats this season include a 15-4 record with a 2.63 ERA.
Also, he has thrown a league-leading 209 innings with 222 strikeouts.
There is no arguing he has been the best pitcher in the American League this year.
The Yankees have to be thrilled with the production they have gotten from Cole since they signed him.
His first year as a Yankee was back in 2020.
Since then he has a 51-23 record and a career 3.08 ERA in pinstripes.
He just turned 33 years old but has shown no signs of slowing down.
Even though the Yankees will not be in the postseason this year, that is not at the fault of Cole.
