Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, there were a number of talented young quarterbacks expected to be taken in the first round, and most of them taken near the top of the draft, which turned out to be the case.
An NFL-record six quarterbacks were selected in the first round of the draft, which included Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix.
Most of those six were expected to go in the first round and very high, but Penix and Nix were the real wild cards, as some believed they could fall to the second round.
However, that didn’t happen, with the Atlanta Falcons shockingly taking Penix at No. 8 while the Denver Broncos chose to roll the dice on Nix at No. 12.
Ahead of the draft, Nix had been linked to the Broncos on more than one occasion, with talk of him being compared to Drew Brees and Sean Payton having a fondness for him.
Ultimately, Nix ended up in the Mile High City, and John Middlekauff believes that could be huge for his success on the NFL level, via The Volume.

With the Russell Wilson experiment being a disaster in Denver over the last two years, Payton and company desperately need to right the ship, especially at the quarterback position, and Nix might be the way to go.
Although the team used a first-round pick on Nix, the rookie will have to beat out Jarrett Stidham in training camp in order to become the starter.
