The Philadelphia Eagles have a new workhorse running back.
Saquon Barkley’s signing was a big move for Nick Sirianni’s team, especially considering they managed to steal him from a divisional rival.
But more than that, it could be the start of a new era in the City of Brotherly Love.
At least, that’s what NFL analyst Greg Cosell seems to think.
In his latest appearance on The Ross Tucker Podcast, the analyst pointed out that signing a workhorse like Barkley might be a telling sign of new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore’s assessment of Jalen Hurts’ game.
“It leads me to believe there’s going to be a little change in their offensive approach with a new coordinator in Kellen Moore. In other words, the offense is not necessarily going to run through Jalen Hurts,” Cosell said.
Does the Eagles signing of Saquon Barkley say something about how new OC Kellen Moore feels about Jalen Hurts?

He believes that, with Moore arriving in town and taking an in-depth look at their offense, he may have felt like the team needed to rely more on the running game.
He also pointed out the fact that Hurts is obviously a big factor in the running game because of his scrambling ability and dual-threat skill set, so it’s not like he’s not going to continue being a focal point in the offense.
Hurts regressed from his career-best season.
Granted, he was hurt for most of the season, so it’s not entirely his fault, but he wasn’t the same MVP-caliber passer he was two years ago.
Despite his short stint with the Los Angeles Chargers, Moore is widely known as one of the best offensive minds in the game, and he has more than enough assets to get creative, not to mention the fact that he knows the division inside out, so it’ll be interesting to see what he has in store for this team.
