For months, the San Francisco 49ers have had a bit of a tough situation on their hands.
Brandon Aiyuk and his camp made it loud and clear that A) he wasn’t happy with his current role in the offense and B) he wouldn’t mind being traded.
Fast forward to today, and they still haven’t signed him to a contract extension, which should only aggravate this situation further.
The Niners did make a big move in the offseason by signing Christian McCaffrey to a very lucrative extension, and they talked about giving Brock Purdy plenty of cash as well, so chances are that Aiyuk isn’t particularly happy about that.
That’s why former NFL player Damien Woody believes the Niners need to cut it out and just pay the man, even if that means moving on from Deebo Samuel.
Talking on ESPN’s UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio show, Woody explained that those guys who are closer to the football are the most important; thus, they should be getting their money first.

And while wide receivers are becoming more important in the game, you don’t need a top-five wide receiver to win a Super Bowl.
With that in mind, he believes you could find someone else to do what Deebo Samuel does, labeling him as an ‘offensive weapon.’
He believes Aiyuk is one of the best route-runners in the game, and that’s tougher to find, not to mention he’s more durable.
Whatever the case, this won’t be an easy decision for the Niners, but it seems like they might be running out of time.
