The Philadelphia Eagles don’t usually spend big money on their running backs.
So, they must have very big plans for RB Saquon Barkley, judging by the kind of deal they gave him in free agency.
Truth be told, that should be far from a surprise.
A hometown player, Barkley has proven to be one of the most dominant and explosive backs on the field when healthy, and that’s despite never playing behind a somewhat solid offensive line.
With that in mind, NFL analyst Brian Baldinger predicted he could be looking at a Christian McCaffrey-type of role in the City of Brotherly Love.
Talking on NFL Total Access, Baldinger explained that Barkley has never played behind a good offensive line, yet he still excels at using his spin moves and quick tweaks to find gaps (via NFL Network).

He believes that’s going to help him find huge openings behind the Eagles’ elite offensive line.
On top of that, he showed some clips of Barkley beating his defender in man coverage, lining up wide, and running good routes to be a factor in the passing game as well.
Also, with an innovative offensive mind like Kellen Moore designing and calling the plays, the table is set for Barkley to eclipse the 2,000-yard plateau in 2024 if he manages to stay on the field.
Signing an aging running back with a history of injuries always comes with risks, but if you’re going to gamble on a player, it might as well be Saquon Barkley.
